Worldwide IT spending is expected to reach $3.9 trillion in 2021, a 6.2 percent increase compared to 2020, according to a press release from Gartner<\/a>. The increase will likely result from the continued need to accommodate remote workers<\/a>, enable virtual learning<\/a> and advance other digital transformation<\/a> initiatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cCIOs have a balancing act to perform in 2021 \u2014 saving cash and expanding IT,\u201d said John-David Lovelock, distinguished research vice president at Gartner, in the release.<\/p>\n

1. Approximately half of companies anticipate increasing their overall IT expenditures in 2021.<\/h2>\n

This aligns with Gartner\u2019s forecast. The survey also found that the top three areas of focus for IT projects are digital transformation<\/a> (with 56 percent of respondents identifying it as a leading priority), cybersecurity<\/a> (50 percent), and cloud\/cloud migration<\/a> (48 percent).<\/p>\n

2. Execs and IT managers expect to invest more in the cloud.<\/h2>\n
