CIOs have busy jobs, especially because technology is always evolving. Cloud computing is increasing in popularity, while BYOD has become a big hit within small businesses. Here are four considerations CIOs should keep in mind when reviewing their current data policies and plans:
1) Energy Usage
A big cost cutter is power management. As the CIO, check out how much energy your using compared to how much you actually need. Most of the time, more energy is being used than necessary and cutting down on excess servers is greener for your company and your wallet. This is one of the advantages of outsourcing your IT, because an outsourced IT team will only charge you for the services provided.
2) Embracing BYOD
Implementing bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies in the office has many benefits. Employees are more satisfied using their own devices to work instead of having to learn how to use new programs and tools. Since they are more content, employee productivity increases.
3) Revisiting and Reviewing Off-boarding Procedures
If someone leaves your company, you don’t want company passwords leaving with them. In regards to cloud storage and data, make sure you have policies and plans in place to ensure that all data is protected and secure. You want to make sure that the transition with a departing employee is smooth for your business.
4) Implementing Data Policies
Now’s the time to check up on your data policies. If you don’t have any, it’s time to create some. That way, you can perform annual/semi-annual audits to ensure that data security, classification and ownership policies are being adhered to.
