Microsoft 365 News 01-27-2022: Supplier Announces Teams Admin Center Updates

New Features

    • New Graph connectors for Jira and Atlassian Confluence
      • What’s happening: Microsoft has announced the upcoming release of new Graph connectors for Confluence cloud and Jira cloud. With these cloud connectors, end users will have the ability to index and search for Confluence pages and blogs and Jira issues and tickets from any Microsoft Search endpoint.
        • Rollout start: Early February 2022
        • Rollout finish: Mid-February 2022
    • Ability to move shortcuts in OneDrive
      • What’s happening: OneDrive end users now have the option to move shortcuts they’ve added via “Add shortcut to OneDrive.”

    • Certificate-based authentication enablement for Security and Compliance Center PowerShell
      • What’s happening: Microsoft plans to enhance security by enabling the configuration of certificate-based authentication to facilitate app-only access.
    • New Outlook for Mac experience to become default for the Current Channel
      • What’s happening: The new Outlook for Mac experience – which improves reliability and performance – will soon be the default for the Current Channel.

    • Privacy Management for Microsoft 365 rebrand
      • What’s happening: Microsoft announced at Ignite in November 2021 that Microsoft Priva will soon be the supplier’s privacy solution brand. Privacy Management for Microsoft 365 will rebrand as Microsoft Priva. Updates to web pages, documentation and product UI will start in late January 2022, and Microsoft will change license and service plan names later in 2022.
    • Teams DLP policies to add automatic file protection capability
      • What’s happening: Microsoft is enabling the configuration of Teams DLP policies to automatically safeguard files shared via channel messages and private chats.

    • Teams Rooms Cortana Voice Activation enablement
      • What’s happening: Microsoft is updating the out-of-the-box experience for Teams Rooms and enabling Cortana Voice Activation by default. IT admins will still have the option to turn the feature off.

    • Expanded Cortana language support for Teams Rooms
      • What’s happening: Teams Rooms will soon allow end users to join meetings by saying “Hey Cortana” if their rooms utilize the languages en-us, en-au, en-ca, en-gb or en-in.
    • Updated copy link command in OneDrive and SharePoint Web
      • What’s happening: Microsoft is updating the copy link command so that customers have the option to alter the permissions and link type before creating a sharing link.
        • Rollout start: Mid-January 2022 for targeted release; early February 2022 for standard release
        • Rollout finish: End of January 2022 for targeted release; mid-February 2022 for standard release
    • Exchange auto-labeling policies add support for encryption of mail from external senders
      • What’s happening: Microsoft is making it possible to configure policies to encrypt mail received from outside of your organization as well as replace manual labels on mail.
    • Updated Microsoft Search filters
      • What’s happening: Microsoft plans to carry out a UI upgrade for the out-of-box filters “File Type” and “Last Modified.”
    • Microsoft Teams admin center to add apps list and banners
      • What’s happening: The manage apps page in the Teams admin center will soon include a list of applications and editorial banners to assist admins in identifying relevant apps for their tenants.

    • Reminder: Internet Explorer (IE) desktop app to retire in June 2022
      • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced the upcoming retirement of the IE11 desktop application on June 15, 2022. The supplier recommends utilizing Microsoft Edge instead.
    • Delayed rollout of Office.com updates
      • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced plans to update the Office.com and Office app for Windows experiences. To ensure the best possible user experience, the supplier has delayed the implementation of these enhancements.
        • Rollout start: Early February 2022 (previously early January 2022) for standard release
        • Rollout finish: End of February 2022 for standard release
    • Delayed rollout of dropdown menu for SharePoint and OneDrive
      • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced plans to introduce a new dropdown menu allowing end users to navigate between various document libraries connected to a site or team. To ensure the best possible user experience, the supplier is delaying the rollout of this feature.

      • What’s happening: Beginning at the end of March 2022, Microsoft plans to retire the ETR report from the Security and Compliance Center. The supplier recommends utilizing the replacement of the ETR report accessible in the new Exchange Admin Center (EAC).
    • Delayed rollout of dynamic e911 for WFH users for DoD
      • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced plans to deploy dynamic e911 for Teams end users work remotely from dynamic locations other than configured locations on enterprise networks. The supplier has delayed the rollout for DoD and will update clients when the deployment is ready to move forward.
    • Delayed rollout of ability to send feedback on image tags
      • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced plans to give users the ability to provide feedback on image tags via the details pane of the document library. To ensure the best possible user experience, the supplier has altered the rollout timeline for this feature.
