Tech Resolutions for the New Year

Now that the New Year is just around the corner, here are some technology resolutions to consider for 2015:

Clean and Organize Your Inbox

Although it’s tedious and time consuming, starting the year off with inbox 0 will help you stay organized throughout the year.

Use an External Hard Drive

Buying an external hard drive is beneficial because you always have your information backed up. What if your lap top is stolen? Or you spill coffee on your computer? Additionally, if you need more space for data you can transfer files to the hard drive before deleting them.

Schedule Software Updates

Another helpful tip is to schedule security software updates. These can be time consuming, but if you don’t regularly check your computer’s security software for updates then you leave your system vulnerable to cyberattacks and malware. Set aside some time while watching Netflix or reading online to do the update.

Change Overused Passwords

With all the cyberattacks and security breaches that have occurred with companies like Target and Home Depot, it’s important to have strong passwords for all of your accounts. Also, make sure you use different passwords for each accounts, so in the case that one of them is jeopardized you won’t have to worry about any other accounts being hacked into.

Re-read Privacy Settings

Social media is fun to have, however you have to be careful because privacy settings are always changing. One day, your information could be private and restricted from public view, and the next day it could be out in the open for the whole web to see.

happy New Year!
