Microsoft Office 365 News 08-13-2020: Microsoft Retires OneDrive Web Discover View

microsoft office 365 logo.In Microsoft Office 365 news this week, Microsoft announced the retirement of the OneDrive web Discover view, in addition to the introduction of PIN verification for support callers and other new features and updates.

New Features

    • PIN verification for support callers
      • What’s happening: For greater security, Microsoft is introducing a PIN-based step to their verification process if you call for support. If you call from an unregistered number, the Microsoft representative you reach will send a verification code to the phone or email registered with your Admin Center profile.
      • Rollout date: Aug. 20, 2020
    • Microsoft Graph privacy controls for intelligent insight visibility
      • What’s happening: Microsoft is implementing new controls that let administrators configure whether employees can see Graph-derived intelligent insights. These controls are currently available in beta.
    • Individual OneDrive anyone link expiration policy override option
      • What’s happening: Microsoft previously gave tenant and SharePoint administrators the ability to override their organization’s expiration policy on a per site collection basis via PowerShell. The supplier is making another update to give admins the option to use PowerShell to override the anyone link expiration policy for an individual end user’s OneDrive.
      • Rollout start: Early August 2020

      • What’s happening: Microsoft has announced early access for the 2020 wave 2 release for Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics 365 apps. This includes information on new abilities that the supplier plans to release between October 2020 and March 2021.
      • Early access date: Aug. 3, 2020
    • Rollout resumed for SharePoint default page templates
      • What’s happening: In June, Microsoft announced the planned introduction of SharePoint default page templates to give site owners the option to designate a default template for editors who create news and pages on their site. After making some changes, the supplier has resumed the rollout of this feature.
      • Rollout start: Mid-August 2020 for Targeted Release customers
      • Rollout finish: Mid-September 2020 for all tenants
    • Rollout resumed for SharePoint scheduling feature
      • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced and then paused the implementation of a new SharePoint feature allowing for scheduling of pages and new posts. The supplier has fixed the issue that led to the rollout delay and is ready to resume implementation.
      • Rollout start: Early August 2020 for Targeted Release customers; Late August 2020 for General Availability
    • Delayed rollout of updates to Microsoft Secure Score improvement actions
      • What’s happening: The supplier previously announced planned updates to Microsoft Secure Score improvement actions. To ensure the best possible user experience, Microsoft is delaying those enhancements.
      • Rollout start: Mid-August 2020 (previously mid-July 2020)
      • Rollout finish: End of August 2020 (previously end of July 2020)
    • Delayed rollout of SharePoint hubs cumulative analytics
      • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced plans to add new reports to the SharePoint site usage page including cumulative usage analytics for SharePoint hubs. To ensure the best possible user experience, the supplier has decided to delay the implementation of these new reports.
    • Delayed rollout for Outlook for Windows cloud settings
      • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced plans to implement an option allowing Outlook for Windows end users to save some settings via the Microsoft 365 cloud. Based on findings from early rings, the supplier has decided to make revisions to the code before moving forward with the rollout of this feature.
    • Delayed rollout of updated Office.com home page navigation and layout
      • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced plans to update the layout and app navigation of the Office.com home page and the Office app in Windows 10. In order to ensure the best possible user experience, the supplier has delayed these updates.
    • Rollout paused for proof of disposal for records
      • What’s happening: Microsoft has completed its rollout of proof of disposal for records in OneDrive and SharePoint. However, the supplier has put implementation on hold for this feature for email records in Exchange in order to ensure the best possible user experience.
    • Retirement of OneDrive web Discover view
      • What’s happening: Microsoft plans to retire the OneDrive Website Discover view starting this month. The supplier recommends that end users leverage Search to find files instead.
