Microsoft Office 365 News 11-12-2020: End of My Apps Support for Internet Explorer Delayed Until 2021

In Microsoft Office 365 news this week, Microsoft has delayed the end of My Apps support for Internet Explorer until August 2021 based on customer feedback. Read on for more new features, updates and announcements from Microsoft this week.

New Features

• • Teams desktop support for personal accounts
    • What’s happening: Microsoft is introducing support for the addition of personal accounts to the Teams desktop app. The Teams mobile app already supports adding personal accounts.

• • Forms polls in Teams meetings
    • What’s happening: Microsoft is integrating Forms and Teams to give presenters a new method for polling attendees.

• • Undo and redo commands for Lists
    • What’s happening: Microsoft Lists now includes undo and redo abilities so that end users who edit lists in grid view can bring back previously entered data or erase erroneous alterations.

• • Simplified Microsoft 365 admin experience
    • What’s happening: Microsoft is creating a new landing experience in the Microsoft 365 admin center. This will facilitate a streamlined admin experience for managing billing, Teams and users. The new experience specifically caters to organizations with 10 or fewer end users.

• • OneDrive for iOS bookmark
    • What’s happening: Microsoft is implementing a bookmark in OneDrive for iOS so that end users can easily return to a specific page in a PDF.

Updated Features

• • Altered individual end user Teams enablement process
    • What’s happening: Microsoft is changing the process of enabling Teams for individual end users in your tenant. The supplier is getting rid of the Teams enablement setting in the Microsoft 365 admin center and transitioning to total reliance on Teams license allocation to determine access.
    • Rollout date: Dec. 3, 2020

• • Yammer Embed feed upgrade
    • What’s happening: Microsoft will soon upgrade the Yammer Embed feed to the new Yammer.
    • Rollout date: Early December 2020 through late March 2021

Announcements

• • Delayed end of My Apps support for Internet Explorer
    • What’s happening: In October 2020, Microsoft announced plans to focus on modern browser support and end support for Internet Explorer starting Nov. 13, 2020, for My Apps, My Access, My Account and My Groups. Instead, the supplier recommended utilizing Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Based on customer feedback, however, the supplier has moved the retirement date to Aug. 17, 2021.

• • Microsoft 365 Endpoint Data Loss Prevention (DLP) now generally available
    • What’s happening: Microsoft 365 Endpoint DLP has transitioned to general availability. This feature pinpoints sensitive data on endpoints and safeguards it against risky utilization, sharing and transfer.

• • Retirement date set for Skype for Business admin center
    • What’s happening: Microsoft will retire the Skype for Business admin center on Dec. 1, 2020. The supplier recommends that customers utilize the Teams admin center instead.

• • Teams web app to end support for Internet Explorer 11
    • What’s happening: Microsoft would like to remind all customers that the Teams web app will stop supporting Internet Explorer 1 (IE 11) after Nov. 30, 2020. At that time, end users will be instructed to use the Teams desktop app or navigate to the web app using Microsoft Edge. Please note that this only applies to the Teams web app, and IE 11 will still be a supported browser as part of the Windows operating system and follow the Lifecycle Policy for the product you have it installed on.

• • Updated rollout timeline for SharePoint list creation templates, visual refresh
    • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced a visual refresh for list creation from SharePoint sites, in addition to the introduction of eight built-in templates for lists. To ensure the best possible user experience, the supplier has changed the timeline for this deployment.
    • Rollout date: Gradually rolling out end of September 2020 through mid-October 2020 for Targeted Release customers; gradually rolling out mid-November 2020 (previously mid-October 2020) through end of November 2020 (previously October 2020) for Standard Release customers

• • Updated rollout timeline for Exact Data Match configurable match support
    • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced that Exact Data Match (EDM) would soon have a new upload agent and support more granular data configuration.
    • Rollout date: Late November 2020 (previously October 2020)

• • Updated rollout timeline for Teams end of meeting notification
    • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced plans to introduce a notification to alert Teams meeting participants when five minutes are left in a scheduled meeting. To ensure the best possible user experience, the supplier has altered the timeline for this deployment.
    • Rollout start: Late November 2020 (previously late October 2020)
    • Rollout finish: Early December 2020 (previously early November 2020)

• • Extension of temporary live event limit increase
    • What’s happening: Microsoft is extending the temporary limit increase for Teams, Stream and Yammer live events.
