Webinar recap: Why you should consolidate communications and IT support

The university’s traditional on-premises VoIP phone system and extremely outdated desk phones couldn’t support remote teaching and learning. To ensure staff members and students could still get their work done even while off campus, Dartmouth turned to GoTo Connect, a cloud-hosted communications solution. After downloading the application, university pupils, instructors and other employees could stay in touch from any device.

“The results speak for themselves,” GoTo Partner Enablement Manager James Bates said during a recent webinar. “It empowered staff and students to reach each other easily and quickly.”

Bates discussed the case study on January 19 during a webinar co-hosted by GoTo, a leading unified communications and remote IT support solution supplier, and Stratosphere Networks, a client-side technology advisory firm. The event covered the advantages of consolidating your tech stack with GoTo Essentials, which bundles GoTo Connect with GoTo Resolve, a remote IT support solution, to simplify solution management and support flexible and secure work from anywhere.

Juggling multiple solutions and struggling to support secure flexible work

The shift to remote and flexible working arrangements has put a strain on many businesses, as IT departments must manage more tools, and employees must find ways to communicate and collaborate effectively outside of the office.

“Life for IT is becoming more challenging with an increase in workload and increase in complexity,” Bates said.

It’s common for companies to obtain solutions for phones, messaging and other communication channels from different suppliers, which can drive up costs and lead to service duplication. Bates noted that many businesses still utilize legacy on-prem phone systems and deploy three or more unified communications tools.

Remote work also creates tech support delivery challenges with helpdesk staff and end users spread out across various locations.

“With so many employees working regularly away from the office, what happens when something goes wrong?” Bates said.

The solution: Combine cloud communications with remote IT support

The GoTo Essentials offering – which bundles GoTo Connect for cloud communications with GoTo Resolve for remote IT support – addresses the challenges many businesses face related to remote and hybrid work arrangements, allowing them to contain costs and promote productivity from anywhere.

“Choosing the right technology to enable flexible work will have a direct impact on business performance,” Bates said.

The Essentials bundle combines phone, messaging, meetings, remote access and support, automation, and ticketing in a simple and secure solution at an affordable price (as low as $35 per user per month). Bates reviewed the key benefits and features of each element of the offering.
