Microsoft 365 News 08-26-2021: Supplier Announces Teams Recording, Transcription for 1:1 PSTN, VoIP Calls

New Features

    • Parameter to disable the creation of new SharePoint 2013 workflows
      • What’s happening: With the parameter -StopNew2013Workflows in the Set-SPOTenant PowerShell command, tenant and global admins can prevent the creation of new SharePoint 2013 workflows.
    • Lightweight plans in Microsoft Planner
      • What’s happening: To allow for more ad-hoc task tracking, Microsoft Planner is introducing “Lightweight plans” that don’t require an M365 Group. Instead, access to these plans is based on a simple list of members that can include any end user with a legitimate AAD ID in your tenant.
    • New Cortana skills
      • What’s happening: Microsoft has announced two new updates to Cortana.
        • The ability to have Cortana call someone or add someone to a meeting in your Microsoft Teams Room on Windows.
        • “Push to Talk” to use Cortana. You can tap the console microphone and say “join my meeting” on newly imaged devices. This feature will be enabled by default.
    • Add or remove presenters as Teams Breakout Room managers
      • What’s happening: Microsoft is giving meeting organizers the ability to add and remove presenters as Teams Breakout Room managers.
    • Pre-meeting creation of Teams Breakout Rooms
      • What’s happening: Microsoft is introducing a feature that will allow meeting organizers to pre-create Breakout Rooms and carry out participant assignment tasks in advance of Teams meetings.
    • Teams frontline worker (FLW) onboarding wizard
      • What’s happening: With the FLW onboarding wizards, IT admins can streamline team creation, policy package assignment and license assignment from the Microsoft Admin Center.
    • Teams 1:1 PSTN and VoIP call recording and transcription
      • What’s happening: Microsoft Teams is introducing the ability to record and transcribe 1:1 VoIP and PSTN calls. Transcriptions and recordings will be accessible via Call history in the call details panel.

Updated Features

    • Spam reporting
      • What’s happening: Microsoft is retiring the standalone spam detections report to achieve a more consistent reporting experience. The Threat Protection Status report will now contain a new Spam detections report view.
    • Spam confidence level named values in Advanced Hunting EmailEvents table
      • What’s happening: Microsoft has announced plans to change the named values under Spam confidence levels from Not Spam, Modern, Skipped, and High to Normal and High. This update will affect the field ConfidenceLevel in Email Events.
    • Activity explorer permission requirements
      • What’s happening: Microsoft is changing the permissions requirements for Activity explorer in the Microsoft 365 compliance center so that only specific roles and role groups can access Activity explorer data sets.
    • Enhanced Microsoft Whiteboard experience
      • What’s happening: Microsoft is updating Whiteboard to deliver a unified and improved experience across all devices. This will involve updates to native applications on Windows 10, Surface Hub and iOS.
    • Consolidated communications for Microsoft 365 Defender services
      • What’s happening: Microsoft is improving the Service health and Message center experience by integrating communications related to Microsoft 365 Defender services under the service listing “Microsoft 365 Defender.” As part of this update, the supplier will remove the “Microsoft Defender for Endpoint” service listing.

    • Microsoft Intune to support iOS 13/iPadOS 13 and up later in 2021
      • What’s happening: Microsoft has announced that Intune will move to support iOS 13/iPadOS 13 and higher following the anticipated release of iOS 15 later this year.
    • Microsoft Intune to support macOS 10.15 and up later in 2021
      • What’s happening: Microsoft has announced that Intune will move to support macOS 10.15 and higher following the anticipated release of macOS 12 later this year.
    • Minimum system requirements for Outlook for iOS and watchOS to change to iOS 15
      • What’s happening: Microsoft plans to update the minimum system requirements for Outlook for iOS and watchOS and remove support for iOS 13 once iOS 15 becomes generally available.
