Microsoft Office 365 News 05-20-2020: Microsoft Releases Cybersecurity Awareness Kit

New Features

    • Teams room management
      • What’s happening: Microsoft has introduced Teams Rooms, which delivers a complete meeting experience (including content sharing, audio and HD video) for spaces of various sizes. You can easily manage Teams room devices via the Teams Admin Center.
      • Rollout start: Mid-June 2020
      • Rollout finish: End of June 2020
    • SharePoint Migration Tool Teams support
      • What’s happening: The SharePoint Migration Tool will soon allow users to move to Teams by selecting a team they own and the channel they want to serve as the destination.
      • Rollout start: Early May 2020 for Targeted Release customers; Mid-May 2020 for Standard Release customers
      • Rollout finish: End of May 2020
    • Teams products AutoClaim Policy
      • What’s happening: There will soon be a policy option that lets users automatically claim an available Microsoft Teams license.
      • Rollout start: Early June 2020
      • Rollout finish: End of July 2020

Updated Features

    • Updated Office.com and Office app navigation and layout
      • What’s happening: In response to client feedback, Microsoft will modify the application navigation and layout of the Office app in Windows 10 and the Office.com home page.
      • Rollout start: Early June 2020 for Targeted Release customers; Mid-June 2020 for Standard Release customers
      • Rollout finish: Mid-July 2020
    • Improved column editing, hyperlink and data and time editors in SharePoint document libraries and lists
      • What’s happening: Microsoft will soon allow users to create all column types from Quick Edit in SharePoint lists and documents libraries, in addition to enhancing the hyperlink and data and time field editors.
      • Rollout start: Late May 2020 for Targeted Release customers
      • Rollout finish: Mid-June 2020
    • Option to invite distribution lists, groups to Teams meetings
      • What’s happening: Microsoft will soon introduce the ability to invite Teams and Microsoft 365 groups or distribution lists to scheduled Teams meetings.
      • Rollout date: Mid-May 2020

Announcements

    • Extended rollout for SharePoint, OneDrive Microsoft Search
      • What’s happening: Last year, Microsoft announced the introduction of the Microsoft Search unified search experience for OneDrive and SharePoint. The rollout has been extended to late May 2020.
    • Introduction of new update channel: Monthly Enterprise
      • What’s happening: To prepare for increased innovation, Microsoft has enhanced the servicing model for Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise by adding a Monthly Enterprise Channel. This channel was established for clients who wanted to join the Current Channel but need more predictability, insight and controls when receiving monthly updates.
    • Office 365 ProPlus updates available on all channels
      • What’s happening: Microsoft has issued updates to the Office 365 ProPlus Monthly Channel, Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted), Semi-Annual Channel and Monthly Enterprise Channel.
      • Rollout date: May 12, 2020 for all users on the listed channels.
    • Cybersecurity awareness kit released
      • What’s happening: In partnership with Terranova Security, Microsoft has issued a cybersecurity awareness kit to meet clients’ evolving requirements. The kit contains the following:
        • Two videos about how attackers are targeting employees by leveraging the current in-flux situation
        • Three privacy and phishing education courses for end users
        • Blog posts, newsletters and infographics
