Microsoft Office 365 News 08-26-2020: End of Support Date Announced for Internet Explorer 11

microsoft office 365 logo.In Microsoft Office 365 news this week, Microsoft announced that its 365 apps and services will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) by this time next year. The supplier also revealed plans for a new Teams meeting pre-join experience and the retirement of the Yammer Account Activity page, among other updates.

New Features

    • External guest access time limit for SharePoint Online and OneDrive docs
      • What’s happening: Microsoft will soon introduce the ability to establish a policy that automatically revokes external guests’ access to SharePoint Online sites and individual OneDrives after a set amount of time.
      • Rollout start: Late August 2020
      • Rollout finish: End of October 2020
    • New Teams pre-join experience
      • What’s happening: Teams meeting attendees will soon have a new pre-join experience that makes it easier for them to select their video and audio sources.
      • Rollout date: Mid-September through the end of September 2020
    • Power Automate and Power Apps Data Loss Prevention (DLP) capabilities generally available
      • What’s happening: Microsoft has announced that Power Platform will support DLP abilities for Power Apps and Power Automate at a General Availability release status as of Aug. 21, 2020.
    • New Teams Content Delivery Network (CDN)
      • What’s happening: Microsoft has announced that end users will soon have access to a new Enterprise CDN called Riverbed for live events in Teams.

      • What’s happening: As part of the OneDrive sync app build 20.143+, end users will soon receive a more descriptive alert when they try to access some locked Office files.

    • Microsoft Search to include PowerBI results in Office.com and SharePoint
      • What’s happening: Microsoft has announced that Microsoft Search will soon include results from PowerBI in Office.com and SharePoint.

      • Rollout finish: Early September 2020 for Targeted Release tenants; Late September 2020 for Standard Release tenants
    • Improved optional diagnostic data for Office issues
      • What’s happening: Microsoft is making enhancements to the optional diagnostic information collected and saved to log files when an end user runs an Office app. The log files can facilitate issue detection and resolution.

Announcements

    • Upcoming End of Support for Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11)
      • What’s happening: By this time next year, Microsoft 365 apps and services will no longer support IE 11. Starting on Nov. 30, 2020, the Teams web app will no longer support IE 11. The remaining 365 services and apps will no longer support IE 11 starting Aug. 17, 2021.
    • Business Central tile not showing up on Dynamics 365 homepage
      • What’s happening: Microsoft has noted an issue that involves the tile for accessing Business Central not showing up sometimes on the Dynamics 365 homepage. End users should be aware that the Business Central service is still accessible via the standard URL.
    • Delayed rollout for customized quarantine notifications
      • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced the implementation of a feature that allows end users to customize quarantine notifications with a custom display name, custom disclaimer and organization logo. To ensure the best possible user experience, the supplier has delayed the deployment of this feature.
    • Delayed rollout for improved image columns in SharePoint lists and libraries
      • What’s happening: Microsoft previously announced plans to implement a new image column type for lists and libraries in SharePoint. To ensure the best possible user experience, the supplier has decided to delay this deployment.
    • Retirement of Yammer Account Activity page
      • What’s happening: The “Account Activity” page will retire from the Yammer Admin Center for Administrators starting Sept. 11, 2020. Microsoft advises using the Yammer OAuth Token Destroy API instead.
